A garden worth painting

Such a well known painting by Monet of his garden in Giverny.

Oh, how I would love to visit there. My Granny and Grandad had a print of this painting in their lounge and I studied it in A level Art History. I have looked at it for hours.

I would so like to see the place that inspired it.

I remember going to Paris as an art student and seeing the waterlily paintings for the first time in L’Orangerie  and being enchanted.

Take a look at  the real thing …. I have just showed my daughter and her eyes were wide. ‘Oh mummy, how beautiful, can we go there?’

Oh how I would love to go there too how beautiful. A garden worth painting indeed.

Monet lived at Giverny from 1883 to 1926 and spent all his money and time developing these beautiful gardens. Apparently he told a friend,

“All my money goes into my garden,” he said. But also: “I am in raptures.’

According to the toursit guide to the gardens…

‘Monet did not like organized nor constrained gardens. He married flowers according to their colours and left them to grow rather freely’.

I have to say I like his style!

Waterlilies are top of my list next time I go to the garden centre. I’m now wondering how to get a little bridge in my garden too. Hmmm. (May require a house move/updgrade)

Oh my goodness how wonderful – I would absolutely love to go there. Was a fantastic post Becky. Weirdly I had this funnily feeling with the first Monet, I’d forgotten a took a photo at Wisley last year which is similar – maybe they planned it that way. Lovely post x

My mother took me there and I loved it. I would love to take my own children one day. I ADORE the quote from the tour guide. It’s just perfect. I wish I had the knack to create a garden like that. I don’t like order and over planning in the garden, but I don’t seem to have the ability to create romance like that either, but I can admire that in others.

Oh yes I really agree, I would love to visit. I went to the Yves st Laurent garden in Marrakech a few years ago, it was magnificent.

I have tried paint plants in my garden, but with no success, so I stick to photographing them. Oh to have a fraction of Monet’s talent.

I love visual arts and I can why flowers and gardens inspired a lot of famous paintings. they are just too pretty and they need to be immortalized =)
