How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep
Without sleep, we’re simply thoughtless zombies meandering through life. But actually finding a way to relax and slip peacefully into unconsciousness is no easy task for many people. One need only to log on to Facebook at 3 in the morning to see just how many people find a nocturnal life seemingly unavoidable. In fact, pastimes like Facebook are part of the problem, but more on that in a minute. Here are some real ways to stave off insomnia.
Find a Way to Relax Your Mind
Perhaps the chief contributor to poor sleep or lack of sleep is a mind that cannot switch itself off at night. It’s completely understandable of course. Many of us live hectic lives, full of jobs, responsibilities, personal problems and a whole host of other issues that occupy the mind throughout your waking day. The key is to find a way to switch these thoughts off come bedtime. Spending time on Facebook or watching a film just before bed could be problematic, as you’re filling your mind with even more information at a time when you should be relaxing it and preparing it for rest. The solution? Relaxation methods such as meditation are perfect for calming a busy mind. Or if you cannot discipline yourself to meditate, try reading a book instead: scanning over a page is far better for you prior to sleep than staring at endless images of babies and cats.
Get A Decent Bed
Even the most relaxed, calm and centred individual will have problems sleeping on a poor bed. Sure, a clear mind is essential. But you’ll also not have much chance of a good night’s slumber if your mattress feels like a sack of jumbo pinecones. So do yourself a big favour: don’t scrimp where beds and mattresses are concerned. This doesn’t mean you must invest in a luxurious oak base with a top-of-the-range memory foam mattress that costs half the value of your car. There are plenty of good quality, well-made and totally affordable bases and mattresses available from retailers such as Bedz ‘R’ Us.
Obviously there are other contributing factors that may play a part (such as too much caffeine before bed). But in general, if you have a comfortable, quality bed and a clear mind, you’re well on your way to some golden slumbers.
