A holiday to Gale Portugal

My little family of 4  have just come back from staying in the beautiful Villa Henriques in Gale Portugal. Such a gorgeous property and in such a stunning location we were actually quite heartbroken to leave. Such a happy and peaceful place. This really has been the absolute trip of a lifetime and I have been recommending it to absolutely everybody who will listen to me!

Gale Portugal weather

The weather in Gale has been absolutely lovely each time we have visited from April through to June. You can take a peek at todays weather and for a few weeks ahead right  here

The beaches in Gale Portugal are awesome

Gale is a lovely quiet area with 3 really beautiful beaches. We spent a lot of time on the beaches at Gale because they are simply breathtaking and unspoilt. Our favourite was…

Praia do Manuel Lourenço

Lourenço beach is small, and sandy bay with rock pools and rock formations just perfect for exploring. There is a cafe and a beautiful glass restaurant overlooking it and it has a small car park and great access. When we were there this beach wasn’t busy at all and it felt like we had stumbled on a little slice of paradise.

Praia da Galé Oeste

Galé Oeste in Gale Portugal is a lovely and very long stretch of sandy beach. There is a beach restaurant, lots of watersports and a lovely restaurant and a large car park. We found this the perfect spot to watch the sun go down.

Praia da Galé Leste – things to do in Gale Portugal

Honestly it is the beaches for the win when it comes to things to do

Along Galé Leste there are various rocky areas and perfect little coves…a lovely beach if you prefer things less busy and your scenery a little wilder.

So that is the beautiful beaches..so gorgeous we didn’t do much else! and in fact that suited me fine it meant we didn’t spend too much extra money and it meant t we really rested and relaxed and bonded too.

If you are considering  car rental Portugal really is a gorgeous place to explore from vineyards to beaches, villages and mountains I would highly recommend it.

Restaurants in Gale Portugal

We self-catered mainly as our lovely villa was so well equipped but we did try a couple of the local beach restaurants and they were quite lovely to eat at.

In the residential area, there are restaurants, bars and supermarkets. It is absolutely the prime spot to take a holiday – we really cannot overstate this it is fabulous.

There are however some fabulous restaurants in Gale Portugal including several fish and pizza restaurants and of course, the Michelin starred Villa Joya. Pop one over here to see a full list of the 10 top restaurants in Gale

It’s not a busy bustling place but has a lovely gentle and friendly place.

We liked Gale a lot!

Things to do in Gale – Visit Albufeira

Albufeira is a short taxi or bus ride away and is both busy and bustling. If you are looking for a place to party and a traditional old town to wander Albufeira does off the best of both world. It’s just a 10-15 minute drive away. We caught a cab from Gale which was easier to do and we actually did this several times as we were so close to amenities we didn’t see the need to hire a car.

Things to do in Albufeira

Albufeira was full of traditional shops,, spectacular churches, lovely restaurants and great places to drink coffee and soak up the upbeat atmosphere. As a family Gale was much more up our street but if I was 18 again Albufeira would be a fun destination.

The Marina near Gale Portugal

A 10-minute drive from Gale brings you to the marina and oh it delightful. Lots of candy coloured building s and a huge selection of beautiful boats. lovely places to eat and trips to go out on. We went out to search for dolphins and to look in the caves along the coastline. Very sadly and unusually we didn’t find dolphins that day but we did have an awesome boat ride and the caves were just majestic. Lots of different boat trips run at varying prices. We went with Black Runner and for a family of 4, we paid about €100.

Our skipper Pedro was fun and reassuring and despite zipping along at speed the boat felt 100% safe. Do book don’t just turn up as they book up really fast. and it woudl be such a shame this has to be one of the very best things to do

Things to do in Gale – Slide and Splash Portugal

Slide and Splash is considered one of the best and biggest water park in Europe, My kids certainly had an awesome day there and I really enjoyed relaxing and watching them! It’s a large, adventurous and well-maintained water park and the kids had just so much fun. It’s about a 25-minute drive from Gale in Lagoa. It costs around 70 euros for us all to go in.

Worth every penny.

It is also a brilliant way to cool down under the hot Potufgese sun but do not forget your sunscreen!

One of our most favourite things to do in Gale.
