I have some great packing hacks for moving house for you today.
Getting it wrong can cause a whole host of problems so it is important to know what you are doing from the start when it comes to packing to move to a new house.
The property market is on the rise
Demand within the property market is on the up, with house prices soaring by 7.1% in April, when compared year-on-year. The stamp duty holiday which now ends on 30th June is likely to have provided a noticeable incentive to buyers and online mortgage broker, Trussle is keen to support all buyers this Spring by sharing packing hacks for a smoother move.
The impact of the stamp duty holiday
Part of the reason for the buoyant property market is the stamp duty holiday – tax has been suspended on the first £500,000 of all property sales in England and Northern Ireland. The holiday was introduced to support those hit financially by Covid-19 and to keep the property market moving,
Trussle’s Stamp Duty Calculator is a useful online tool that enables you to calculate how much stamp duty you will pay for a residential UK property in 2021, both during and after the stamp duty holiday.
The amount you pay is of course impacted by the price of the property, where it is, what type of buyer you are, and when you complete. It is anticipated that a great number of people will be hoping to move ahead of the stamp duty deadline. This calculator demonstrates how much buyers can save whilst the tax relief is available and also how much stamp duty they will need to pay if they miss the deadline or purchase a property after 30th June.
If you are planning to take advantage of this holiday you may also want to try and get your mortgage sorted sooner rather than later.
Working out your mortgage
Trussle also has a very handy Mortgage Calculator which can give you a good indication on how much you will be able to borrow for a mortgage here in the UK. You can use it to work out your monthly mortgage repayments or to work out much you could afford to borrow when buying a home.
Packing Hacks for Moving House
Once you have clued yourself up on your finances, it is time to look at practicalities and some good packing hacks for moving house which can make a big difference!
Making a plan
The very first thing you want to decide is are you moving yourself? Are you booking in a firm to come and pack for you? Or are you doing the packing but having a house removal firm come and take the boxes? Decisions around this will impact every other packing decision you make so do get deciding.
Book in the specialists
If you do decide to go down the route of having help with your home removals, get them booked in early. It is a busy time with so many people moving and hoping to complete ahead of the stamp duty deadline so ensure you get your removal services booked in as soon as possible.
Book some time off work. Moving to a new house is more stressful and way more time consuming than you will probably imagine. Knowing you have a block of time to organise and prepare will help massively.
Declutter and take your unwanted goods to the charity shop or your local recycling centre. Try and prepare for this before your move as you don’t want to be worrying about donating items, whilst in the midst of packing!
File your documents safely
Put all your precious documents together and store them with a friend or trusted family member for safekeeping. Things can get lost in a house move and some things need to be specially secured.
Pack up by room
If you pack up room by room, you will find unpacking that much easier. This way when you get to the new house your boxes can be immediately stored in the right rooms, saving you hours of time when you come to unpack. So rather than putting all bed sheets together, pack everything from your little boy’s bedroom together, your spare room and your own room.
Take your time
Take your time and wrap items well, storing fragile items correctly. You will be thankful later when you are able to unpack and display all your lovely things in your new home.
