I was thinking the other day about how much waste we seem to generate in our home. Week in week out we fill our bins and have to go to the tip too. I need to try and do something about it!
In terms of being more eco friendly there is a lot we can do. There is a great article called Top Tips to Sustain an Eco-friendly Household which has inspired me to make some changes in our home. Just simple things but ones that will make a difference. her is my commitment to creating a more eco friendly home.
Jumpers first!
Spring is well on its way but there is still a chill in the air. I do have a tendency to crank on the heating at the first hint of cold and heat the who le house although there is only me in the house working at my desk in a tiny corner of the kitchen. Such a waste of energy and money I need to think Jumpers First and try layering rather than heating !
Reduce packaging waste
Like I said we have so much packaging waste in out house it is quite ridiculous. I am going to try and ensure we have less this week. I am going to buy my fruit and veg loose. I am going to purchase a packet or granola and use a glass jar from home rather than a box. I am going to buy one big tub of yoghurt rather than lots of little ones and I am going to reuse envelopes and boxes that come into the house.
Lowering the temp
I always wash on 40 but apparently if items are not heavily soiled 30 will do! This saves on heating bills and clothes wear too so I am turning the temp down!
Food waste
Waste of any kind is just not eco friendly SO from next week I am meal planning every day and making sure we actually use up the food we buy. Some weeks I throw away food that hasn’t been used, what an absolute waste. No more.
Simple changes but definitely a step in the right eco- friendly direction.
