5 Ways to Stay Fit During the Pandemic

working out during a pandemic

Exercising in this pandemic is not an easy task. With pandemics on the rise and the gym closing down due to lockdown, many people cannot keep up with their exercise routines. However, this should be no excuse to leave exercising and go into an unhealthy habit of always lounging around.

Even a small amount of activity can make a massive difference to how well you think and feel. During this challenging time to stay physically and mentally healthy, it is essential to exercise. It can help ease depression, stress, and anxiety prevalent during these times because of so much uncertainty.

5 Ways to Stay Fit During the Pandemic

Here are a few tips that would help you stay active and healthy under such circumstances.

  1. Start with a Healthy Breakfast.

Breakfast is the first meal of the day and kick starts you for the rest of the day. It is essential to have a complete and nutritious breakfast full of proteins. Eggs, yogurt, and nut butters are great options for your morning meal. Most people skip breakfast to stay fit, but it should be the opposite. Eating breakfast is essential as it gives you the energy to get things done, work out and focus on work or at school. This meal kick-starts your metabolism and helps you burn calories throughout the day.

To make your meal more nutritious, add the best protein powders to your morning protein shake. Protein shakes are excellent supplements for athletes and those looking forward to working out during the day. They promote muscle gain and aid weight loss by keeping you full for long periods.

  1. Create a Home Workout Area

You should work out even if you can’t go to the gym. Make it a habit and stick to it. It is crucial for your physical and mental well-being that you prioritize exercising at home. You wouldn’t cancel doctor appointments. Similarly, you must fulfil your obligation to work out every day.

Exercising could be made easy if you designate an area to working-out. Use that space effectively and keep your exercise equipment in it. You can keep your dumbbells, resistance bands, treadmill (if you have one) and other equipment you use for exercising. Even if you don’t have everything available at home because of lockdown in your city, you can use household items to exercise.

You can do push-ups against the wall, climb stairs up and down for exercise, or even use filled water bottles as dumbbells. Once conditions in your city settle down, you can order gym necessities online or even go to a store to get them.

To further stay motivated and in routine, join an online zoom workout class. Working out alone can be tedious. However, if you have many people and an instructor on zoom to keep you on your toes, it’s not a bad idea.

  1. Go Out for a Walk

If you’re safe and have no need for quarantining, go out for walks in the neighbourhood. Take a walk, jog, or ride a bike outside. However, remember to follow precautions and maintain distance if you come across a crowded area. The fresh air and the sunshine after days of staying at home would help you feel re-energized and boost your mental health.

This way, you will keep your workouts interesting by switching the type of activity you do constantly each day. Sometimes you could ride a bike, and sometimes you could stay home and work out in your designated area. Call a friend and ask her to join you on zoom to work out together. This way, you can keep each other motivated.

  1. Try New Activities

Exercise doesn’t always have to be cardio. There are different types of exercises, such as barre exercises, dancing, boxing, cardio funk, yoga, Pilates, or even HIIT. There are now so many videos available online for beginners to learn these new exercises; this is your chance to learn.

Many people find it more comfortable to learn something new when no one is watching them. This way, you might find your new passion and keep your workouts interesting.

  1. Do Chores

Even daily chores can come under working-out. Make your chores enjoyable and do them to stay fit and exercise. Doing your daily chores such as doing the dishes or sweeping keep you active and on your feet.

Take it Easy!

It’s okay to feel a little frustrated during this time, and don’t beat yourself up for not feeling motivated enough to work out every day. Take one step and start with something low intensity to get back into routine and create working-out a habit. –
