Create Deadlines
Having a deadline is a great way to strengthen willpower. It gives you both a target and a goal and sets your actions within a framework so you have to keep them both contained and focussed. Sometimes a project does not have a deadline ( for example – a book proposal may not have a deadline) but left to its own devises and time frame you may never get your book proposal written. Short deadlines can make you feel stressed and pressured BUT it will also ensure you show up and work hard and get that work finished. I always give my self deadlines whether it be for weight loss or for writing or cleaning the house. It keeps me on track!
Avoid Temptation – one of the easiest ways to Strengthen Willpower
Probably the most straightforward ways of strengthening your willpower is to avoid putting yourself in temptation’s way as much as you can. When you limit your exposure to that which tempts you, you’ll be less likely to give in.
Some people believe keeping your temptation close to you can help you develop stronger willpower, and that might work too- it all depends on the kind of person you are. Experiment with both these ideas and see what works best for you.
