Beautiful Things by Liz Burton

Liz Burton (or Missie LizzieB as she is probably best known) blogs over at Me and My Shadow.

Liz is feisty and funny and she has a very big heart.

Liz runs a lovely linky called Magpie Monday where bloggers share their second hand treasures. She loves nothing more than foraging and exploring forests with her young daughter.

Thank you Liz for sharing your beautiful things with us..

The most beautiful day I ever had was actually a night.  And it was the night that Obama was elected president of the USA.  I remember it so clearly, there was a tingle in the air, you could just tell it was going to be a momentous occasion.  Ruby was only about 8 months old and not sleeping well and I was breastfeeding her still.  I lay propped up in bed, with her in the crook of my arm with the TV on all night as she dozed in and out.  I remember whispering to her that this was an amazing event, one that she should be part of.  I remember being full of pride at how much progress had been made in just a few decades.  I remember being so full of hope and optimism about the future, and whispering that she could do anything, be anything she could possible want.

The most beautiful thing I have ever seen is my daughter.  Every single day.

The most beautiful thing I have ever owned is my engagement ring.  I don’t mean that in a materialistic way because it’s an expensive diamond!  It symbolises 10 years of us being together, all we’ve achieved, of the life we’ve built and the family we’ve created.  We designed it together, carefully coming up with a style we both loved.  It was very important to us to have a conflict-free diamond and fair-trade gold, and I think it reflects both our style and our values perfectly. And who knows – we may even get married one day!

The most beautiful song I have ever heard – well this has changed so much over the years.  From my Goth days of Siouxsie and the Banshees version of Dear Prudence and The Cure’s Charlotte Sometimes, to my dalliance with Rock – Poison’s Every Rose has a Thorn and Guns N Roses Sweet child of Mine.  Then it was Tori Amos, and every single song on the Little Earthquakes album which I played to death. Nowadays I have no control over the music I listen to, with my daughter having full charge of the car stereo.  Nothing’s allowed unless it’s One Direction, although I have to say Little Things gives me goosebumps! (Did I really admit that?)

The most beautiful person I know is my long-suffering Other Half.  He’s so supportive of everything I want to do and pushes me much further than I would ever push myself because he believes in me.

The most beautiful thing about me is probably my loyalty.  I’m fiercely loyal to my friends and those I love or a cause I believe in.

Thank you lovely Liz x

I also remember that night/morning well. It was incredible! I remember a US co-worker coming into the office and then just bursting into tears. Was a very beautiful moment for many.
