Here are my 20 favourite interior design trends for the year ahead.

Packaway Home Offices in Home Decor Trends in 2023

Since the pandemic, more and more of us continue to work from home but we don’t actually want it to look like we do.

We don’t all have the luxury of  home offices – so what we need is home offices that hideaway. They really can be super cool and very practical too and allows a clear compartmentalization of roles for our home.

Art Deco Home Decor Trends in 2023

I have always been a fan of the geometry and stylishness of art deco, especially in furniture, flooring and tiling. Lovely jewel bright colours and high calibre design are not the sort of thing I would have in my home ( I am way more into minimalism) but it is a good look – rich and elegant.

Look at these art deco tiles – don’t these make a splash. They would transform a bathroom wouldn’t they into a super interesting space.

Natural Light Home Decor Trends in 2023

We know vitamin d is good for us and we know that light makes us feel happier. So, with an ever-increasing focus on wellness, natural light becomes the heart of home design. Bare windows, big windows, roof windows are all the rage and a key element in renovations in 2023.

Here is to sleeping well and feeling good with the help of home decor trends in 2023.

Sexy Curves in Home decor Trends in 2023

Curves on sofas, on cabinets and even on tables are increasingly popular in home decor trends in 2023. They give a lovely sleek look that is somehow a whole lot cosier than angular lines.

I love a good curve – do you?

Seascapes in Home Decor Trends in 2023

Greens and aqua tones have been big fashion statements in 2022 and home decor trends in 2023 are set to embrace these seascapes tones too.  Gorgeous and rich but natural too, these colours feel almost cocooning and make the most beautiful colour for a sofa or even for your walls.

Add a little gold too and you will feel you are swimming in a luxurious ocean.

Home Decor Trends in 2023 include Arched doorways

Oh, how I love an arched doorway. It makes me think of the Med or Africa and it really is an elegant addition to any home.

If you are looking to add a doorway renovation or an extension into your home in 2023 you really should think about an arched doorway. It’s taking the curved trend little further and adding it into your architecture.

Arched alcoves are also having a bit of a renaissance and make a lovely reading nook or mediation area.

Monochrome (with gold) in Home Decor Trends 2023  UK

Monochrome is back and I am glad because it combines minimalism with a wow factor and it is an easy look to live with. Especially big in bathrooms and kitchens and often accented with gold this is one style that, if we are honest, has never really gone away.

Squishy sofas in Interior trends in 2023

Squishy sofas are having a moment and who doesn’t love the idea of cuddly and snuggly seating. Our homes are for relaxing no matter how much we want them to make a style statement too. Think furry and velvety fabrics with deep squishiness too. Just perfect for lazing around and chilling out.

All you need is a good book and a cup of hot choc.

“Comfort, cocooning and creating one’s own world whether it is La Dolce Vita of the Italians or the hygge of the Danes is a key theme.” (source)

Neon

I am absolutely not a fan but neon, nevertheless, is IN when it comes to home decor trends in 2023.

Sigh.

If you want your home to look like a bar or a teenager’s bedroom, then this is the look for you. It can come in all sorts of ways from lamps to lighting strips, art and even picture frames. Use with caution is my advice.

Home decor trends in 2023  feature Rage Rooms (and other emotional escape rooms!)

Emotions are running high, and we are trying to take good care of ourselves and one great way to do that is to create an emotional escape room in our home.

According to Pinterest, there is huge spike in searches for music-themed rooms, crystal rooms and yes super popular is the search for rage rooms.

  • Rage room +150% (A rage room, also known as a smash room or anger room, is a room where people can vent their rage by destroying objects!)
  • Music themed rooms +2x
  • Crystal room +8x
  • Tiny library room +12x
  • Home massage room +190%  (source)

I have no clue what you would put in a rage room or what on earth it might look like so here instead is a tiny library!

Biophilic design: Bringing nature into the home

Humans have an innate connection to nature, and biophilic design is a wonderful way of bringing that connection indoors. By incorporating elements of nature into the home, we can create a space that is both aesthetically pleasing and calming.

This is an ever popular trend and one that can really breathe life into a home.

Biophilic design can take many forms, from incorporating plants into the décor to using natural materials like wood and stone. By bringing nature into the home, we can create a space that feels like a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

And of course, plants are beautiful!

Sustainable materials in Home Decor Trends in 2023

There is an increasing trend in using sustainable materials for interior design in both residential and commercial settings. This is due to a growing awareness of the impact our built environment has on the natural world, and the need to reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources.

It matters.

Some of the most popular sustainable materials for interior design include bamboo which is often used in flooring, or cork often used in ceiling tiles.

I love a bit of rattan or wicker myself and they always look so good.

Interior design 2022

Home Decor Trends in 2023 embrace minimalism

In 2023, the interior design world will be all about minimalism.

This trend has already begun to take hold in 2022, and it is only going to become more popular in the coming year. If you want to stay ahead of the curve, you can start incorporating more minimalist elements into your design schemes now!

Small Kitchen Cabinet Design Ideas are a great way to maximise space and organise your storage so your kitchen can look more minimalistic and tidy! Do take a look at these contemporary ideas.

Here’s how:

– Clean lines: Furniture and decor in a minimalist space is usually very clean-lined and simple in design. There is often a focus on function over form, so you’ll probably spend more time picking the best loft ladder than the decor..

-Lack of clutter: A minimalist space is free of clutter and feels open and airy. This is achieved by keeping only essential furniture and decor, and by decluttering regularly.

-Natural light: Minimalist spaces often make use of natural light to create a bright and airy environment. Large windows and skylights are common features.

Geometric shapes in Home Decor Trends 2023 UK

Geometric shapes are often used in interior design to add interest and visual appeal.

Common geometric shapes used in interior design include circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. These shapes can be used alone or in combination with other shapes to create interesting patterns and designs.

Geometric shapes can be used to create a variety of looks, from modern and contemporary to classic and traditional. When used in combination with other design elements, such as colour and texture, they can help to create a unique and stylish space.

As you can see above curves are the big news but other shapes are going to be turning heads too!

Home decor trends in 2023 favour Bold colours

Bold colours can add a lot of personality to a home. They can make a space feel more exciting and inviting, and can even help to make a small space feel more open and airy.

Importantly, consider if you want to create a more relaxed and calming atmosphere, using softer and more muted colours may be a better option. However, if you want to make a statement and add some energy to a space, choosing bolder and brighter colours can be a great way to do that.

So perhaps sea colours aren’t for you if you want to feel dynamic – perhaps go big and bright instead?

Mixed metals

Mixed metals are a great way to add interest and texture to the design of your home.

By incorporating different metals into the design, you can create a unique and stylish look. Mixed metals can be used in a variety of ways, from adding accent pieces to your décor to using them as a main focal point. Keep in mind that the metals you choose should complement each other, and that the metals you use should be appropriate for the style of your home.

So, if you have luxe home gold would be great and it’s big this year. But if you like a minimalist look chrome is a great accent metal.

Textured finishes

In recent years, there has been a trend towards more textured finishes in interior design. This can be seen in the popularity of finishes such as concrete, wood, stone and brick. These finishes add a level of depth and interest to a space that can be difficult to achieve with traditional flat finishes.

One of the benefits of textured finishes is that they can help to camouflage imperfections in the underlying surface. This can be particularly helpful in older homes with walls that are not perfectly straight.

Home Decor Trends in 2023 – Tech in the home

In 2023, many homes will be incorporating smart technology into their design. This means that various devices and appliances will be connected to the internet and be controlled remotely.

This will make life much more convenient for homeowners as they will be able to control everything from their heating and cooling to their security system and lighting with just a few taps on their smartphone. In addition, this technology will also help to save energy and money as homeowners will be able to monitor and adjust their usage as needed – especially helpful in today’s climate.

Outdoor living & Home Decor Trends in 2023

WE have an extra room in our home to work and play, relax and socialise and we often neglect to make the very best of it. What am I talking I about – why your outdoor living space of course.

Do you use your outdoor space to it’s full potential.

So many people don’t and it is is such a shame of course, a wasted opportunity.

Outdoor living has become increasingly popular in recent years, as homeowners look to extend their living space and blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living. This trend is driven by a desire to connect with nature, enjoy the outdoors, and entertain guests in a unique and stylish setting.

One way to create an outdoor living space is to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor areas using large glass doors or walls that open up to the outdoors.

Pet-friendly interior design

Pet-friendly interior design is a rapidly growing trend, and one that is set to continue into 2023 and beyond. More and more people are choosing to adopt pets, and as a result, there is an increasing demand for homes and businesses that are designed with pets in mind. There are a number of ways to make your home more pet-friendly, including choosing pet-friendly furniture (which is often made from durable materials) and creating a dedicated space for your pet.

Summary: Home Decor Trends in 2023

Interior design trends in 2023 will change our homes. If you want to spruce up your home, think about how you can use a combination of these different trends to make a truly unique space.
