Many Flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beautiful insects that help your plants flourish. There are many ways to do this and building a flowerbed will give you the chance to get creative – let your imagination reign free! The most important part of this project will be your planning. Sufficient preparation before you start building will allow you to enjoy the process and finish the job in no time!
How to make a flower bed:
There are an endless amount of flowers to choose from that range in colour and size. Before you choose flowers based on the visuals, I would research different types of flowers and plants based on these questions – Are you an expert in plant care or would you prefer something that is easy to look after? Is your garden exposed to a lot of sunlight or is it mainly covered in shade? Do you have children around or animals that could be harmed by certain types of plants? These are all things you need to consider before choosing the flowers you will plant in your flowerbed. Below are some examples of flowers that will look beautiful but won’t harm anyone:
- Sunflowers
They will tolerate full sun exposure and are happy in most types of soil. I love these because they will attract things like butterflies – although you will want to be careful with insects, some might eat more than they add benefit.
- Coneflowers
These flowers are fairly easy to take care of, as long as planted at the right time of the year. They will add beautiful shades of purple to your garden and are a wonderful option for smaller flowers.
- Zinnias
Zinnias will vary in shape and can add different textures to your garden.
The borders of the meadows
There are many ways to create a border and which one you choose will depend on your budget, as well as the look you would like to create in your garden. It is important to settle the edge lower into the ground to prevent any grass from growing over and into your flower garden. While bricks are a common material for Lawn Edging, aluminium is another option – You can see examples here. Bricks allow plenty of room for creativity as you can get creative in their layout. You can choose to lay them out in patterns or keep them simple in straight lines. Some flowerbeds have borders that you can not see because they are laid out mainly underground. This will give you more of a wild look while staying organised and tidy in your garden.
Flowers along the Path
As mentioned above, certain materials for lawn edging will allow for a more invisible garden edge. This is especially nice if you would like to let your flowers grow along a path or a meadow. You can keep grass from growing into your garden while keeping your flower bed natural and edged onto your lawn. If you would like to grow flowers along the path, just make sure they are not poisonous as they will be easily reached and touched by anyone passing.
