How to stop Negative thoughts  in 5 simple steps

‘My mind is always running and I don’t have a minute to spare’ or ‘I am not good enough to handle the current situation and everything seems falling apart’, you must have realized saying this to yourself when life gets hard.

Negative Thoughts

What causes negative thinking?

Let’s take a look at some of the things behind negative thoughts

  • Tiredness
  • Habit
  • Sadness
  • Being around negative people
  • Repeated setbacks
  • Mindset
  • Lack of action
  • Loneliness

All I have are negative thoughts

We, as a human, experience many emotions and thoughts but when our mind gets clouded with the cluster of negativity, it becomes difficult to grab yourself out of it. Don’t despair. Neuroplasticity tells us we can alter our brains with effort repetition and practice so you aren’t stuck with negativity forever and there really is a great deal you can do to banish those negative thoughts.

The power really is in your hands.

Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow.” — Helen Keller.

Who do you think you are

We are as we think and hence our thoughts play a major role in deciding our future. If we are always stuffing negativity inside our heads, we can never really expect the positive bloom.

I can totally feel you in this case when it sometimes is impossible to stop such negativity to spread. However, there is nothing on this entire planet that cannot be challenged or changed and this merely is your own mind, your own thoughts.

You can surely replace these negative thoughts with optimism once you start believing in yourself.

“Positive thinking is more than just a tagline. It changes the way we behave. And I firmly believe that when I am positive, it not only makes me better, but it also makes those around me better.”

How to Stop Negative Thoughts in 5 Simple Steps

Here are the five tools that will help you remove negative thoughts and inherit some positivity.

“Optimists have a habit of explaining anything that happens to them positively. Pessimists explain anything that happens to them negatively.” – Haryanto Kandani

  1. Challenge your negative thoughts

Before challenging the negative thoughts, you need to be aware of them. By practicing some mindfulness exercises, you will become more conscious of what you’re feeding your mind with. And as soon as you find yourself getting in the trap of negativity, challenge those thoughts and help yourself to look at the other side of the darkness.

This will be possible when you practice mindfulness regularly and dig deep within. When you’re aware of the root cause that’s spreading negative thoughts, you can surely help yourself control them.

  1. Take the power away from these negative thoughts

It indeed is difficult to get control over negative thoughts but do not let them give you any direction. Simply label these thoughts as silly, unhelpful, unwise, and make yourself believe that these thoughts are just here to damage your progress and that you won’t let them do it anyway.

You are in charge of your life, let not these thoughts ruin it.

  1. Your negative thoughts don’t define you

You don’t need any validation from your thoughts and nor will they ever define you as a person. These thoughts are sometimes the consequences of difficult times that we may be facing. They never define you as whole or even as who you are.

Do not give them so much power that these thoughts rule your life instead of you ruling them.

“Positive thinking will let you do everything better than negative thinking will.” – Zig Ziglar

  1. Look in the bright side, always

Where there is negativity, there is always something positive too. We are just so overwhelmed by negative events sometimes that these sparks of positivity can be buried under dark shadows.

Whenever you’re surrounded by negative thoughts, think about all the ways you’re blessed and be grateful for them. Write down everything that brings you joy and happiness and finds out the ways to include more of those activities in your routine.

Always remember, darkness is incomplete without light.

  1. Remember to see the bigger picture

Our negative thoughts often are momentary but they leave a long-lasting impact because we fail to look at the bigger picture. Always remember the thumb rule of five, if it doesn’t matter after five, you shouldn’t spend thinking about it for even five minutes.

Plan out your goals and ways to achieve them. You surely don’t need this negativity to hinder your growth.

In the end, we are all humans who stumble upon some or other negative thinking in our daily life. The idea is to help out ourselves from this darkness by bringing in the light and my dear, this light can only be ignited when you stand up and roar in the face of your negative thoughts.

“As soon as you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you will start to get positive results.” – Wilie Nelson
