Today – Lighting Trends in 2020
Lighting Trends in 2020
When it comes to looking at lighting trends in 2020 it is clear that a really clean, pared-back unfussy look rooted in organic material dominates. Probably a response to our awareness that we need to pare back consumerism and clutter and lead a simpler lifestyle both for the health of our planet and for our own mental health. Trends come and go in interior design but it is interesting how so clearly they reflect the world around us. The lighting trends in 2020 are absolutely a reflection of the worlds
This quote really captures that.
“Design is intelligence made visible” -Anonymous
Pin lighting trends in 2020 for later
I love good lighting. I always think it makes a home look complete, properly finished if you know what I mean. I was so excited to take a look at lighting trends in 2020
My thoughts on Lighting trends in 2020
Whilst per se I don’t think trends matter I do really think it is interesting to see what has come on the market in terms of lighting trends in 2020
The right lighting can illuminate little corners and bring areas to life. Garden lighting enables you to use your outdoor space long after the lights have gone down. Lighting creates an atmosphere if that is what you are after and it helps a home look bright and welcoming too. Lighting trends in 2020 are well worth exploring
I absolutely believe it can make a huge difference to a home and how to feel about it. So without further ado lets take at look at the lighting trends in 2020
Star light Star bright – BIG lighting trends in 2020
Look how this beautiful star light in my hallway welcomes people in. It is such a simple design but it makes a big statement. Big statements are hot in lighting trends in 2020 and I just think it looks stunning and so very welcoming. I cannot begin to tell you how many compliments we have had on it. As lighting trends in 2020 go big statement pieces are at the top of the list
I was concerned it was going to look a little Chrismasssy and perhaps I would just reserve it for that, but on reflection, I think because it is so simple and minimalistic it is okay for year-round use not just the festive season. What do you think?
Outdoor lighting trends in 2020
Outdoor lighting is both practical and beautiful and was one of the top garden trends of 2019. This trend is set to continue in 2020 because- well why wouldn’t it. Lighting our garden gives us another space to be and oh it really does look so wonderful when lit.
I think it is so very romantic to have your garden lit up – do you?
Fairy lights are definitely not just for Christmas either and I really do think that they look wonderful strewn in trees for a garden party or between tents if your child is having a sleep out. Battery operated lights are so convenient and allow your lights to easily be moved around. These fairy lights work well for us and are so practical. I love, love love that we don’t have cables trailing around everywhere as I think they can be such a hazard, particularly when you have kids running around all over the place.
Solar powered lighting trends
And just look at the super cute solar-powered mini mushrooms aren’t they the sweetest lights ever? If she was a tiny bit younger I could imagine my daughter bring her little fairy statues out to the garden and making up endless stories under those mushrooms. Aren’t they just whimsical?
Minimalism in Lighting Trends in 2020
Minimalism continues to be a dominant design lighting trend for 2020 and applying this to garden lighting really adds calm to your outdoor space. We pared this lovely battery operated outdoor LED candle with a bonsai and a general garden tidy up. It looks very zen I feel. I always find that the more simple my design and my space the more relaxed I feel. I get so excited by things and often over-consume – especially when it comes to interiors but minimalism? out of all the lighting trends in 2020 is the one that really appeals to me the most. It not only appeals to me more aesthetically but the quieter appeal makes me feel quieter and calmer and I like this feeling.
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” -Leonardo da Vinci
Gold Lighting trends in 2020
Soft golds and brass bring a warm glow to lighting and gold is set to the big design trend in 2020 in lighting. These wooden Salcombe lanterns are just beautiful, aren’t they? Not only do they look sleek, minimalistic and stylish, once lit up (again conveniently battery operated) they add a cosy, natural-looking glow to a room.
Golds also work well in miniature. We love these simple gold and silver stars for both table and mantel decorations. As far as Lighting Trends in 2020 go I do believe gold really is going to take a lead
Natural Materials – a big design trend in lighting trends in 2020
Design experts suggest that natural materials will impact most choices in Interior design trends in 2020
“Increasingly, people will be looking for handcrafted designs, and opting for traditional and organic materials wherever possible. Wood, glass, brick and stone, along with rattan and wicker, will be the home décor materials of choice, for both durability and natural aesthetic. (source)
In lighting terms, we can see lots of glass, rattan, rope, wicker and a return to a really classic look with a modern edge.
Basket pendants lights will be one of the huge lighting trends of 2020
In line with using natural materials, basket pendants will totally come into their own in 2020. We are just loving this bamboo basket lamp from lights4fun it is so cute and can be placed anywhere you need a little extra light. We would use this in our bedroom and in our lounge but the little handle and the fact it is battery operated mean it could actually be used anywhere you like (and it never gets hot – which always worries me!)
“A house is much more than a mere shelter, it should lift us emotionally and spiritually.” -John Saladino (Saladino Furniture Inc)
Reading Lights – one of the HUGE lighting trends in 2020
Oh, I do love a good reading light, don’t you? Is a little corner full of cushions, a glass of red and a pile of new books what could be better? Oh, I know what could be better some cheese! and a great reading light too. Hop on over and have a look at my Serious Readers Alex light review to see a wonderful reading light in action
So what do you think of these predictions for lighting trends in 2020? Are they the sort of lighting you like? I think they are beautiful, natural, stylish, unobtrusive and totally fitting with the times. In my view, the lighting trends in 2020 are absolutely brilliant
Thoughts and feelings on lighting trends in 2020
I have so enjoyed looking at these lighting trends for 2020 and I have so enjoyed sharing them with you. I do think it is super important though to keep any consideration of interior design trends in perspective. You have to know you, your own style and what works for you in your house and with your home and current design. Just following what is hot right now may give you a quick buzz, after all, there are some lovely items around and it is great to feel you are on top of current trends BUT you have to consider your space and your taste. Sometimes a simple nod towards a trend is enough to satisfy my interior design-loving heart.
My advice would always be to pause before you purchase and really try and envisage how your space would work with any new additions.
I know it is hard to pause when you are tempted by something especially if you are impulsive like me..but always best to get things just right.
Lighting quotes
Lighting has inspired poets and artists, activist s and philosophers pretty much forever. here are a few of my favourite quotes about the power of light.
“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou
“There is no darkness so dense, so menacing, or so difficult that it cannot be overcome by light.” Vern P. Stanfill
“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.” Brene Brown
As we work to create light for others, we naturally light our own way. Mary Anne Radmacher
May your feet ever walk in the light of two suns… and may the moonshadow never fall on you… ” ― Robert Fanney
“There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.” – Edith Wharton
and my absolute favourite…
We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are. – J. K. ROWLING
