I love lighting I think it can change everything when it comes to interiors so  I was thrilled when Charlie wrote this post for my blog.

Lighting trends in 2021 – what’s hot

As we draw to the end of an eventful 2020 I think it’s fair to say that, now more than ever, we are all looking forward to a fresh start in the new year, and though this pandemic won’t magically disappear at the stroke of midnight (no matter how much we wish it would), the new year will still bring us stylish new lighting trends to spruce up and enliven our homes.

Why lighting trends in 2021 are going to really matter

Whilst we spend our time trapped inside, working from home and following the Covid rules life can get a bit dull, a bit monotonous and oftentimes even depressing, so lighting really has become one of the most important aspects of the home, lighting up the spaces in which we now spend so much of our time.

So let’s take a look at some of the top trends coming in 2021 and how to style them to really make the most of living at home.

Lighting Trends in 2021 : Chic Office Lighting

Working from home does not have to be such a drag, I promise, as I’ve said before, lighting can transform your home and in these times that also means your office!

In 2021 we’re all going to be investing in some more aesthetic desk designs and this shouldn’t exclude lighting, so get ready to find the best lamps to adorn your new workspace, and especially get ready to see the resurgence of old trends like this retro-chic style which has dominated in previous years.

These rustic yet simplistically modern lamps create an intriguing even perhaps eclectic effect with the exposed bulb of the first lighting design and similarly the exposed wiring of the second, which add to the character and individuality of each lamp, sprucing up the workplace without taking over, or getting in the way.

Lighting Trends in 2021 are amazing.

Both of these will bring a unique yet minimalist style to any office and will undoubtedly be a staple for those with the trendiest Zoom setups, looking as good turned off as they do on – this time round quarantine will be focussed on functionality and fashion.

The bare metal of both lamps leads us on nicely to the next emerging trend for 2021, brass lighting fixtures.

Lighting Trends in 2021: Brass Lighting

After last year’s obsession with everything rose gold it was only a matter of time before another metal took over and for 2021 that will be brass. Matte or high shine, brass designs will be a key trend, bringing a bold and glorious element to any type of lighting fixture.

Whether you incorporate this metallic style into your desk setup as a new retro-chic lamp with a brass stand, or into your kitchen or hall as an eye-catching ceiling fixture, or simply as a unique lamp for your living room with brass detailing to bring a more elegant look, this trend will certainly revamp and modernise your home

The brushed brass paired with the black provides a more chic and polished aesthetic which you could also get by incorporating more contemporary designs like a concrete base, or you could go the other way and pair it with more earthy tones and natural materials like wood for an updated and refined effect.

Whatever you choose, this trend is sure to revitalise any space in your house, so there’s no excuse for a boring interior.

Lighting Trends in 2021 : Statement Ceilings

Ceilings, underrated and under-decorated. When you think of interior design your mind doesn’t often go to ceilings, they’re plain, uninteresting, ‘vanilla’, there’s nothing going on, and when you do think of ceilings and interior design it’s probably because you’re imagining the royal masterpiece you could create if you were rich, a diamond chandelier and your very own Sistine Chapel.

Whilst I can’t promise you the Sistine Chapel or a diamond chandelier, some fancy and extravagant hanging light fixtures may not be so out of reach.

When we talk about the lightning trends of this year we cannot underestimate the importance of ceiling lights. The right lightening at the ceiling makes all the difference and gives the overall vibe a classy and brilliant look. Ceiling lights are looking to be a key trend for 2021, and not as they used to be, this time as a focal point for any room, able to bring out the grandeur in every single one of us. There are options for every style, if you don’t want such a grand and daring chandelier-type light you could go for a more unconventional and artful design, every different style making their statement. Here are a few of my favourites.

Lighting Trends for 2021: Bold Floor and Table Lamps

Again with the statements! Looking towards 2021, bold and colourful lamps will make their mark as a key trend, and a welcome one for sure. We all need that bit more brightness in our lives at the moment and what better way than a joyful and vibrant light fixture to lighten up your living room.

Patterns in lighting trends in 2021

If the more modern and classy designs of fancy brass lights and rustic-chic desk lamps aren’t your style then perhaps you should turn towards the more jubilantly designed colourful and patterned lamps.

The more patterned designs also definitely incorporate an 80’s vibe which will undoubtedly make any space cozier, heartier and more serene, it will make your house feel more like a home.

So don’t be intimidated by these bold patterns and colours because done right they can really boost the atmosphere and a boosted atmosphere = a boosted mood, which is something we all need right now.

Be creative with Lighting Trends in 2021

As long as your room isn’t otherwise perfectly uniform then mixing and matching funky lamps is definitely the way to go, you can be as creative as you like, the whole point is individuality and vibrancy, surround yourself with colours and patterns that aesthetically please you and give you that little boost in serotonin every time you wake up.
