The most beautiful day I ever had ……
If I temporarily cast aside the momentous and beautiful days of getting married and having my son, it gets a bit trickier to pin down a particular day. I’ve had plenty of memorable days traveling, and some amazing experiences with my family. I’m lucky that as part of my work I get to be immersed in beautiful design and have also seen some of the most beautiful art history examples in real life.
But if push comes to shove and I have to name one it’s going to have to be the family trip we took at Easter this year, when we went to Venice. Along with my in-laws, my husband, and I experienced Venice through the eyes of our 5 year-old son and it was simply beautiful. We will all forever cherish our family trip on a gondola, after having been down the Grand Canal on the vaporetto to the Peggy Guggenheim museum and then finishing off the day with fantastic Italian food. He thought Venice was like a “real life” fairy-tale, filled with statues of lions and bridges, it was a thrilling experience for him (and us!). It’s the immeasurable stuff that memories are made of.
The most beautiful thing I have ever seen …
It’s a cliché but absolutely the most beautiful I have ever seen was my son when he was born and my husband cradling him with tears in his eyes. A sentiment shared by mothers around the world. The most beautiful place I have ever seen is the Treasury at Petra and St. Peter’s Basilica. I feel so very lucky to have seen some astounding places on my travels.
The most beautiful thing I have ever owned …
Even though I’m firmly in the Gen X age group, just like Millennials I’m a firm believer in experiences over possessions. So big purchases tend to be travel related. There are two things that are particularly precious to me, my engagement ring, which came from my husband’s grandmother and my beautiful 10-year-old dachshund Milo. He’s been through the wars but he wears it well.
The most beautiful song I have ever heard …..
When I saw this question I went and looked at my iTunes account to see what I played most, and I was very surprised. And a bit embarrassed, but I listen to iTunes when I’m working out and that’s all I’m going to say on the matter. Two songs are guaranteed to stir something very deep in me are Pokarekare Ana by Hayley Westenra and The Sea by Morcheeba. I also cry uncontrollably at Christmas Carols.
The most beautiful person I know is…..
Without doubt the most beautiful person I know is my husband. I met him when I was 16 and we’ve been together for 24 years this year. We’ve been through a lot together and he has been by my side through thick and thin. If he didn’t keep me laughing I’m not sure where I’d be.
The most beautiful thing about me is……
Well this is a toughie? I’m so terribly British and self-deprecating that speaking about myself usually results in some kind of calamitous joke, it’s a reflex that comes from putting others at ease. I think I have a big heart, I want to help and I’m loyal to those I hold dear. I also have a rather big belly laugh that can erupt at the drop of a hat.
Thanks so much lovely Mary.
