#MyMarathon : Walk 1

Over the next 4 weeks I am going to complete a full marathon!

This is rather a big deal for me as I have a bilateral paralysis of my diaphragm (basically it no longer works.)  I have to sleep on a ventilator and I have restricted lung capacity.  As a result of this I cannot get out of breath so running isn’t an option..but I can walk (more and more these days!)

I’m taking part in #MyMarathon and completing 26.2 miles throughout September to raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s life saving heart research.

my marathon

My lovely mum had a valve replaced in her heart twice over her lifetime and it saved her life both times. Mum was my best friend and I loved her with all my heart, every single day I had with her in it I appreciate completely.

This is a cause very close to my heart.

Today I started the walk  (the rules are that I cannot count what i just do bibbity bobbing about it has to be an uninterrupted intentional walk. it was really important to me I did this walk with the children. I want to inspire them and I wanted to talk to them about Grandma and why charities like the British Heart Foundation matter and need our support.

We were to walk to the cinema!

We set out down the lovely canal on a long and hot journey into the city centre, over bridges, past 2 football grounds, up too many steps at the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery. Bless their little hearts  they did not moan once!

We walked past the beautiful canal

Past Notts County Ground

The city is in sight!

Walking thorough the Nottingham Contemporary and it’s welcomingly cool cafe!

We saw Swallows and Amazons at the cinema and ate huge amounts of popcorn. It was epic. Home now and completely flaked out in our pjs at 6pm!

Well done kids SO proud of you x

And how far do you think we walked?

How fabulous is that! #exhausted

I would love you to sponsor me here if you can if not your words of encouragement would be equally fabulous. x

This is for you mum

Great job Becky, the British Heart Foundation is a very worthy cause. That picture of the canal looks so tranquil, it makes me want to dig out my old walking boots and go for a ramble along the Leeds to Liverpool canal which is close to where i live.

What a great way to start and so lovely to get the kids involved so they know more about what you are doing and your reasons. It was a hot day, so well done. Hope you enjoyed the well-deserved rest at the cinema!
