I have been looking at natural scents to freshen my home and have a host of gorgeous ideas that I am excited to share with you.
I love a scented home and I find it is as important to me that a home smells nice as it is that it looks nice.
All the senses need to be satisfied when it comes to home. I think when a home smells unpleasant it absolutely hits you straight away and it makes you feel uncomfortable, it jars and jangles the nerves, it makes you want to open every single window or at worst, leave!
When a home has a beautiful smell though it is quite different isn’t it, it can help you feel calm, relaxed, fresh and uplifted.
So what scents work best in a home?
Natural Scents to Freshen Your Home
I am not a fan of strong artificial scents. They can be overpowering, discordant with the surroundings and they can sometimes even make me feel slightly ill. I am thinking of tropical smells or overpowering citrussy smells. They really can just be too much. I like more subtle scents best.
What about you?
I find air freshener spray that is released in one hit can produce too strong and too temporary a smell. I much prefer the use of diffusers to spread scent around a room. A diffuser provides a more subtle and slower diffusion of scent and it can feel a lot less heavy and be a lot more pervasive to spread scents this way.
My 10 favourite natural scents
I love these scents as they are very natural and I think they work beautifully in a home
- Fresh cotton
- Newly cut grass
- Light lemon
Fresh Flowers as Natural Scents to Freshen Your Home
I also love to use fresh flowers to bein natural scent into a home. Flowers make my heart sing they always have I love plants to scented plants like honeysuckle and white jasmine are juts gorgeous.
But, when it comes to flowers I think the scent of freesia or sweetpeas are hard to resist okay and roses and lilies – oh I could just go on and on and on. I do love fresh flowers in my home.
When it comes to the cleaning products in my home I love fruit-scented smells like apple-scented polish or mandarin soap. But actually doesn’t anything smell quite like fresh fruit itself, strawberries, woody scented apples, mango and pineapple. Mmmm. I think every home should have a great big fruit bowl full of fresh ripe fruit.
Herbs are another way to fill your home with beautiful and natural scents

- Lemon thyme
- Lemon verbena
- Sweet Marjoram

And does anything at all smell as lovely as line-dried laundry when you have bought it into the house. I just adore it.
