Lets take a look today at things you should never have in the bedroom.
Things You Should Never Have In The Bedroom
Do you know what should make this list?
The bedroom is the one place in the home you should be able to relax fully and sleep well.
It’s the place you spend an awful lot of time in, so it makes sense for it to be a place that you feel comfortable spending time in.
It’s going to be so important for your health and wellbeing to know how to decorate your bedroom so that you get enough rest to face each day ahead of you, and it’s for that reason that we have got have this f great list of what not to have below:
Keep these things out! Things You Should Never Have In The Bedroom
Electronics – things you should never have in the bedroom
Curling up in bed and scrolling through your phone like it’s the morning newspaper is a staple for a lot of folks, but it’s also something that can be quite damaging. Tablets, television, smartphones and laptops should all be left outside the room.
Firstly, it’s tempting to use a device while it’s charging, which could set fire in the night. Secondly, blue light technology is actually stopping you from sleeping well, and you can read more about that here!
Pets.
You’ve just visited Mattress-Guides.net and purchased a brand-new mattress for your bed based off the reviews you have read. The last thing you need is your cat scratching it for sport. Or your dog shedding all over it. Pets can wake at odd hours and disturb your sleep cycle, so it’s best to leave them in the living room.
Halogen Bulbs – things you should never have in the bedroom
When it comes to lightbulbs in the bedroom, halogen are the ones you want to leave behind. Go for LED bulbs, which are safer and won’t get hot enough to cause a fire in your home!
Family Photos.
The canvas you created are gorgeous, but they should be in the lounge where everyone can see them and in the hallway as you walk to bed every night. Family photos are beautiful, but they have the habit of reminding you of your obligations and can keep you up at night when you’re trying to rest.
Portable Heaters.
You should never leave a space heater unattended, so when you bring one into your bedroom, you’re tempting fate that you may fall asleep with it still running. It’s best to avoid the worry and just not bring one in to the bedroom at all. Trade up for a warmer bedding set instead and add an extra comforter.
Clutter – Things You Should Never Have In The Bedroom
Having an untidy space can create an untidy mind. Tidying your room every evening and making sure that you have a tidy bedroom to sleep in is going to help you to keep your bedroom a space for relaxation and sleep. It will look so much nicer too.
Desks – things you should never have in the bedroom
You may not have a home office, but that doesn’t mean you should double up your bedroom as a place of work. Bedrooms are not for stress, but for sleep and it’s a place that you can avoid stressful activities – like work!
This list is not exhaustive, but it’s important that you know how you can create a bedroom space with the right atmosphere and not the wrong things not to have in your bedroom.
It’s all been very negative so far so lets flip this on it’s head and take a quick look at 7 things you SHOULD have in your bedroom
7 thing you SHOULD have in your bedroom
Creating a bedroom that promotes relaxation, comfort, and a good night’s sleep is key.
1. A Comfortable Bed & Bedding
- Why: The bed is the focal point of your bedroom, and having a comfortable mattress and pillows is essential for a restful night. Soft sheets, blankets, and a duvet or comforter should also match your personal comfort preferences.
- Tip: Consider memory foam or hybrid mattresses for better support, and choose bedding that is breathable, like cotton or linen.
2. Good Lighting
- Why: The right lighting helps set the mood and promotes relaxation. You’ll want a mix of ambient lighting (like overhead lights), task lighting (such as reading lamps), and accent lighting (like fairy lights or candles) to create a cozy vibe.
- Tip: Adjustable lighting (e.g., dimmable switches or lamps) is a great option to help you set the mood for winding down or reading.
3. Storage for Clothes & Personal Items
- Why: To keep your bedroom organized and free from clutter, having proper storage is important. This could include dressers, nightstands, or storage bins.
- Tip: A clean and organized room can help reduce stress and make the space feel more peaceful.
4. A Mirror
- Why: A full-length mirror is not only functional for getting dressed but also helps make the room feel more spacious and bright by reflecting natural light.
- Tip: Consider placing it in a spot where it doesn’t feel overwhelming, but still offers good functionality.
5. A Cozy Throw Blanket or Comfort Item
- Why: A soft, cozy throw blanket can make your bed feel even more inviting. It’s also a great addition for colder nights when you want to snuggle up and relax.
- Tip: Choose a throw that matches your bedroom’s aesthetic while adding texture and warmth.
6. Plants or Fresh Flowers
- Why: Indoor plants or fresh flowers can create a calming and refreshing atmosphere. They improve air quality and bring a touch of nature into the space, which can help reduce stress and improve sleep.
- Tip: Low-maintenance plants like snake plants, succulents, or peace lilies are perfect for the bedroom.
7. A Scent Diffuser or Candles
- Why: Aromatherapy can enhance your relaxation and help create a tranquil environment. Using essential oils or scented candles can promote sleep, reduce stress, and make your room smell great.
- Tip: Scents like lavender, chamomile, or sandalwood are known for their relaxing qualities, perfect for bedtime.
