Team Honk Danceathon: 18 bloggers share their ’18 and happy song’

So the Team Honk danceathon is happening soon and it’s made me think about dancing!

When I was 18 I spent most Saturday nights at the Irish club in Nottingham dancing to the Waterboys or to James (sitting down on  sticky lager wet floor). I loved it there. The song that always made everyone jump up to dance though was Candi Staton and the Source  You’ve got the love. It just filled me up with feel good energy. It was a sense of being carefree and surrounded by friends and full of life. It still does make me feel like that and it has had a bit of a revival in current years so I have had had the pleasure of hearing it many times since.

What was your 18 and happy song?

I asked some of my blogger friends and here ‘s what they said….

EMF – Unbelievable.  Kate from Kate takes Five

The Levellers – World freak show  Amanda from The Ana Mum Diary

Nomad – I wanna give you devotion Donna from Mummy Central

Katrina and the Waves – Walking on Sunshine   Chris from Thinly Spread

Fragma – Toca’s Miracle    by Sarah at Polka Dot Family

Rembrandts – I’ll be there for you (think FRIENDS!)  from Clare at Seasider in the city

Blur-Parklife   Joanne from Kids days out reviews

Worryingly I am having trouble remembering what I dance to at 18 – it was a long time ago. But a current fave is “we are young” because of the irony.

What a great way to promote the danceathon. I love music and dancing and am very excited. Great list – thank you for sharing mine.

I am useless when it comes to eras but I think I was into Dire Straits and Bonjovi still. Loved James and sitting on the floor when that song came on

I was at university in Nottingham and used to go to The Irish from time to time! This was between 93 and 97. It seemed to be obligatory to snog someone at the end of the night?!
Love this list of songs – especially World Freak Show as I’ve loved Levellers since I was 17. So I guess my happy 18 song would be One Way by Levellers, which I will still dance to now. I’ll dance to anything at any time tbh, but sadly can’t join Danceathon as my MIL is most in considerately turning 70 that weekend!

It’s a tough one but it’s either Love Shack by the B52s or Groove Is In The Heart by Deee-Lite. But some of the songs in your list have brought back memories too!
