The January Challenge 2023 is a free initiative that uses creative challenges to connect people with their communities kick-off on January 1st.
The January Challenge 2023
The January Challenge 2023 is run by the UK-based non-profit 64 Million Artists. It involves 31 days of quick, fun and free creative challenges – one challenge for each day of the month – that everyone can participate in. The initiative is partly funded by the Arts Council.
Jo Hunter, Founder and CEO of 64 Million Artists, said, “The January Challenge is a moment of magic where anyone can join in and discover their own creativity on their terms. We’re excited to have co-created it with a diverse range of groups, individuals and communities across the UK.”

The 2023 January Challenge is creative
The 2023 challenges have been designed by collaborators across the UK to encourage people to do something creative, think about how they did it and share the process. Collaborators for this 10th anniversary challenge include Lemn Sissay OBE poet, playwright, performer and broadcaster; writer and LGBTQI+ Broadcaster of the Year Liv Little and artist, and deaf performer and storyteller Jonny Cotsen.
When asked what people can expect from the January challenge, Jonny Cotsen said; “Some of the more meaningful challenges have a purpose that gets people thinking about everyday barriers that we sometimes face. One challenge can have such a huge positive impact on your life — and that is what makes The January Challenge so exciting and rewarding.”
