Does Your Garden Feel Like It’s Got Space For You? If Not, Here’s What To Try!

Does your garden feel boring, lack space, or feel totally overgrown? Do you find it hard to get out there and use it when the weather’s good? If so, you probably see your garden as more of an accessory – and not as a space you can use to relax and enjoy yourself!

Because right now, your garden doesn’t quite feel like it’s for you. But that’s something we can help you fix. Check out the tips below.

Don’t Just Carve Out a Patio, Make Your Garden Revolve Around One

That’s the thing about the patio, isn’t it? A lot of homeowners out there think you just need to insert it somewhere there’s a bit of space for it. The rest of the garden (the lawn, the plants) are what actually takes centre stage.

But when you think like that, you’ve already counted yourself and your needs out of your garden layout.

So why not do the reverse of this plan, and actually make the patio the focal point? You can then fit the rest of the garden around your area, where you can sit and relax, have BBQs, read a good book, etc.

And if you feel you can’t quite envision a ‘proper’ garden where all the plants are pushed to the side, you can even enlist an expert landscaper to come up with the perfect layout for you.

Start Bordering the Edges

When there are borders around the ‘edges’ of your garden, it’ll make the space feel a lot neater. Even if you prefer a wild garden look, it’s usually a good idea to separate things out and try to create zones for different garden uses.

And when you can literally pop a border between where you like to sit and where the plants are allowed to grow, you’re going to feel a lot more included in your garden design!

So make sure you create these lines throughout your garden space, sectioning out your patio, grassy lawn, rockery garden, planting area, compost heap, etc., and create a space that’s both functional and natural at the same time.

Opt for a Bit of Privacy

Finally, when your garden doesn’t quite feel like it’s got time or space for you, you need to look into making it more private and intimate.

Because your garden is your garden. It’s not for the neighbors to look over, or for the plants to take over; it’s for you, and it should feel easy for you to use it. And sometimes that does require setting up a gazebo, privacy hedges and shrubs, or a full on pergola that’s canopied with all kinds of climbing flowers.

The more comfortable you feel in your garden, the more you’re going to use it. If you can slip out onto the patio, soak up the shade, and relax with no one watching, you’re going to use the garden much more often!

When your garden can’t fit you in, redesign it in the way you need!
