It is full of hidden treasure, the most delightful places to stay , history, culture, theatre and shopping! it truly does have it all and there is just so much to see and do. Sure it is full of budget options with it’s myriad of hostels and street entertainment, monuments and free galleries and museums, but if you are looking for something upmarket and more exclusive it has everything you could wish for and more.

Where to stay in London

Unique places to stay in London abound – cool, interesting, elegant and classy. For example, right in the city centre you can find the premium serviced apartments that Urban Retreat Apartments offers. Once the old vicarage of Mayfair, now reconverted into exclusive luxury serviced apartments apartments in central London.  You just have to check these out if you are looking for somewhere fabulous to stay!

Don’t the apartments look spectacular?

Things to do in and around Mayfair

Mayfair is the height of London chic and sophistication. You absolutely want to stay in the heart of central London because it means you can easily see and do everything you want and this area is full to the brim with options.

See amazing art

The Royal Academy of Arts is a must see. Open for 250 years this gorgeous building houses some amazing exhibitions featuring world class artists. It also has a lovely café for you to rest your weary feet  and the building itself is an architectural masterpiece. Exhibitions range from classic to modern so you will always find something to your taste and it’s summer exhibition of new artists is always a treat!

If you are looking to buy then Mayfair is also a brilliant place to be, the streets are littered with private galleries and upmarket Christies and Sotheby’s world famous auction houses are a great place to purchase a painting or two!

Tickle your tastebuds

Mayfair is a haven for foodies for a host of reasons. My favourite eateries there are Sketch, the Mercato Mayfair food hall and of course Claridge’s.

Sketch is one of London’s prettiest restaurants and hugely popular on social media for this reason. It has 5 different rooms in a range of cool styling. The chairs wear ballet shoes, the chandeliers are as amazing as the forest wall murals, and even the space pod style toilets are an Instagram hit! Sketch is creation of restaurateur Mourad Mazouz, along with renowned chef Pierre Gagnaire, and whether you are after breakfast, lunch or supper Sketch is the place to be! (Oh, and did I mention it serves 3 Michelin starred food!)

Mercato Mayfair is a food hall housed in a stunning converted church just on the edge of Mayfair. It has 2 floors and a host of eclectic food options as well as delightful rooftop terrace, and a well stocked wine cellar, there really is something for everyone here. A must visit!

And how about afternoon tea at Claridge’s. I did this last summer and it was special with a huge capital S! Decadent, delicious and just so very English. The food and service were nothing short of impeccable and it is a treat I would recommended over and over again! You will never forget this iconic hotel and experience.  We ate dreamy finger sandwiches, drank champagne and tea and had cakes that looked like art.

Scrumptious.

Have a royal experience

St James Palace is also well worth a visit. It was home to the various Kings and Queens of England for over 300 years, right up until Queen Victoria. You  can explore both the Chapel Royal and Queen’s Chapel on select dates throughout the year and there are rare tours too,  but oh just to see it fills you with awe, it is a fabulous building and full of history.

Shop till you drop

London is packed with fabulous shopping form Camden market to Harrods but it doesn’t really get any more exclusive than a shopping trip to Bond street.

Bond Street houses every major luxury brand and is believed to  the highest density of haute couture stores anywhere in the world.  (though if you want a handmade suit Saville Row is the Mayfair address to head for with over 40 world class tailors ready to make you something bespoke and beautiful.)

And there is more …

You could also dance the night away at classy nightclub Annabel’s and mingle with the rich and famous. You could take a break form city life and wander round the little lush oasis that is Berkeley Square, you could head to the London Palladium for opera or you could even do a guided tour and take it all in!

There is so much to see and do in and around Mayfair!
