The 10 Biggest Interior Trends of 2027: Home Decor Trends

The 10 Biggest Interior Trends of 2027  -I don’t know about you, but I’m finding myself much more drawn to homes that feel lived in lately.

Not perfect. Not overly styled. Not a room where you’re afraid to put your feet up.

I’m talking about colour, old furniture, interesting little details, beautiful lighting and rooms that actually look like somebody lives there.

And looking ahead to interior trends for 2027, I think we’re going to see even more of this.

The big shift is away from homes that all look the same and towards spaces with personality. Think warm colours, painted woodwork, clever little kitchen details, curtains, vintage finds and decorating choices that feel personal rather than plucked straight from a showroom.

So, if you’re wondering what’s going to be big in interiors next year, these are the 10 biggest interior trends of 2027 I’m keeping an eye on.

The 10 Biggest Interior Trends of 2027

1. Homes with personality

This has to be one of my favourite trends.

We’re moving further away from the idea that everything in a room needs to match perfectly. Instead, homes are becoming more collected and personal.

An old chest of drawers next to a modern sofa? Yes.

A charity-shop lamp that doesn’t quite match? Absolutely.

Family photographs, books, artwork, things you’ve picked up on holiday and furniture you’ve had for years are all part of the look.

I think this is such a lovely direction for interiors because your home should tell your story.

It doesn’t need to look like everyone else’s.

2. Warm, earthy colours

If you’ve been surrounded by endless white and cool grey interiors, you might be pleased to hear that colour isn’t going anywhere.

For 2027 home decor trends, I’m expecting to see plenty of warm earthy shades.

Think chocolate brown, terracotta, olive and moss greens, warm creams, rusty reds, muted yellows and those lovely muddy shades that make a room feel instantly cosier.

You don’t have to paint every wall brown either.

A colourful armchair, curtains, cushions or even a painted piece of furniture can make a surprisingly big difference.

And personally, I’m very happy to see homes getting warmer.

3. Colour drenching

If one colour is good, why not use it everywhere?

Colour drenching is where the walls, woodwork and sometimes even the ceiling are painted in the same or closely related shades.

It can sound a little scary until you see it done.

A deep green room with matching skirting boards and doors can feel incredibly cosy. A soft pink used across the walls and woodwork can feel surprisingly calm. Even a warm neutral can look beautiful when it’s carried throughout the whole room.

And this brings me nicely to another trend I think we’re going to see everywhere…

4. Painted trims and colourful woodwork

I’m particularly excited about this one.

For years, white skirting boards and door frames have been the safe choice. But now the woodwork is getting involved.

Painted trims are such a simple way to change the feel of a room without redecorating everything.

Paint your skirting boards the same colour as the walls for a softer look, or choose a contrasting shade to make the architectural details stand out.

You could paint your door frames, architraves, window surrounds or even the inside of a door.

And if you’re feeling brave, go for a really beautiful deep colour.

It’s one of those decorating ideas that costs relatively little but can make a room feel completely different.

5. Kitchens are becoming more sociable

The kitchen is becoming less about simply cooking and more about actually living.

We’re seeing kitchens designed around chatting, eating, working, reading and generally hanging around.

And I’m here for it.

Comfortable seating, bigger islands, little breakfast corners, open shelving and furniture that doesn’t scream “fitted kitchen” all help make the kitchen feel more like another room in the home.

I especially love kitchens that look slightly collected rather than completely brand new.

A vintage chair, an old dresser or a little table can make all the difference.

6. Kitchen hatches are back

And speaking of kitchens…

Kitchen hatches are making a comeback.

Yes, really.

That little opening between the kitchen and dining room that we once thought was hopelessly old-fashioned suddenly feels rather lovely again.

But this time, it’s less about a tiny functional opening and more about making it a feature.

Imagine a little serving hatch with a chunky wooden shelf, painted trim and a beautiful pendant light nearby.

It can create a connection between rooms without completely knocking down the wall.

There’s something quite nostalgic about it too, and I think that fits perfectly with the growing love for homes that feel individual and slightly less predictable.

Sometimes you don’t need to open-plan everything.

Sometimes you just need a hatch.

7. Pattern mixing

Pattern is getting braver.

Stripes, checks, florals, gingham, little prints and vintage-inspired fabrics are all finding their way into homes.

But the trick isn’t necessarily to have everything shouting for attention.

A patterned cushion next to a floral curtain can work beautifully when the colours have something in common.

You might have a plain sofa, patterned curtains and a slightly mad lampshade.

And honestly, a slightly mad lampshade can be exactly what a room needs.

I think pattern mixing will be one of the biggest home decor trends of 2027, particularly as people become more confident about decorating with things they genuinely love.

8. Curved and comfortable furniture

We’re still going to be seeing plenty of softer shapes.

Curved sofas, rounded chairs, chunky ottomans and furniture with softer edges can make a room feel much more inviting.

And I think comfort is becoming just as important as how something looks.

Nobody wants a beautiful sofa that feels like sitting on a park bench.

The best interiors for 2027 will have somewhere you actually want to curl up.

9. Statement lighting

Lighting is no longer an afterthought.

A beautiful lamp can completely change a room, even if you haven’t changed anything else.

We’re going to see more sculptural lamps, oversized shades, interesting pendants and lighting that almost doubles as artwork.

And please don’t rely on one lonely ceiling light.

Lamps dotted around a room create so much more atmosphere.

A little lamp on a side table, one on a shelf and a lovely floor lamp in the corner can make an ordinary room feel wonderfully cosy in the evening.

This is probably one of the easiest 2027 interior design trends to try without spending a fortune.

10. Handmade, vintage and slightly imperfect pieces

Perhaps the biggest trend of all is that things don’t have to look brand new.

Handmade ceramics, vintage furniture, antique mirrors, woven baskets, old books, handmade textiles and pieces with a little wear and tear are all helping to make homes feel more interesting.

I’m particularly glad we’re moving away from the idea that everything has to be pristine.

Give me an old wooden table with a few marks on it.

Give me a wonky handmade vase.

Give me a chair that’s been passed down through the family.

Those little imperfections are what make a home feel warm.

So what will homes look like in 2027?

If I had to sum up the interior design trends for 2027 in a few words, I’d say: warmer, more personal and much less perfect.

We’re bringing colour back.

We’re painting the woodwork.

We’re mixing patterns.

We’re making kitchens more sociable.

We’re bringing back little details like kitchen hatches.

And we’re surrounding ourselves with things that actually mean something to us.

You don’t need to completely redecorate your home to get the look either.

Start with the skirting boards.

Change a lampshade.

Find an old piece of furniture.

Add a patterned cushion.

Paint a door.

Or, if you’re feeling brave, bring back that kitchen hatch.

Because I think the best thing about the home trends of 2027 is that they’re not really about following trends at all.

They’re about making your home feel like yours.

And honestly, I think that’s a trend worth keeping.
