Downsize Before Packing

Before you even put one thing in a box, make sure that you go through your house and decide what is staying and what is going. If you know that you are moving soon, start this process as soon as possible. Start in one room and then go you each room, one by one, and look at all of your belongings. 

In this process, you should make three piles: things to donate, things to sell, and things to keep. Once you have gone through everything, consider holding a garage sale or selling clothing and other items in consignment stores or online. Donate whatever doesn’t sell to GoodWill.

As much as you may think you can do this on your own if you are packing up an entire house and moving to a new house, you are going to need some help. One of the most cost-effective ways to move your stuff is to hire a mobile storage company with which you can hire a shipping container to be brought to your house. These containers vary in size, but can normally fit quite a lot of stuff. Once you load everything in, you don’t have to worry about transporting your stuff yourself. 

If you work full-time and do not have time to pack up your entire house, hiring a moving company to come in and pack everything up for you is also a great option. A few days before you move, several workers will come in and pack everything you own into boxes. The great part is that they use bubble wrap and paper to make sure that all of your items are safe. Hiring packers in combination with hiring a mobile storage container is a perfect solution to make moving as seamless as possible. 

 

Label All of Your Boxes

This small step will help you immensely when you start the unpacking process in your new home. If you really want to get organized with it, try color-coding different boxes for different rooms so that movers will know where to place them as they bring them into your new house. This can be done simply by purchasing some colorful stickers and a black marker. 

Make sure to label several sizes of each box because they may be stacked in a way that the label can’t be seen. This system of labeling will save you and the movers time and frustration and you can start to get settled into your new home much faster. 

 

 

Keeping these tips handy when you start the moving process will make the whole ordeal much easier to accomplish. Remember to always have a black marker in hand and packing tape in your back pocket and you will be ready to take on your big move.
