What is Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on the 14th of February. It’s a day for people to show their affection for loved ones, often giving cards or gifts which can be called “valentines”. If you want to educate your child more on the history behind the day of love, you could show them this free Valentine’s Day History PowerPoint which is an easy way for your children to understand the meaning behind Valentine’s Day.

  1. Embrace the outdoors for Valentine’s

Sometimes, the best way to spend time with family is by spending time in nature. Whether that be taking a walk or going for an ice cream in the park, it’s nice to bond with your children away from screens and other distractions. Outdoor activities are becoming less common, so try and get out if you can!

  • Take A Family Walk – This might not sound like a Valentine’s themed activity, but it may mean that you can play and spend more time with your children than you might at home. It’s a great way to show them love and spend quality time with them, as well as explore the outdoors. Maybe go to a new park you haven’t tried before, or go on a new walking trail!
  • Go to a cafe – Although this one isn’t necessarily a “budget” item, it’s a nice activity to do out of the house. You could find an affordable cafe to take your children and partner to and share a drink or a cake. You could go to a cafe of your children’s choice, or use this Family Valentine’s Day Activities Poster for more ideas on how to spend your day.

  1. Have a Movie Night

Relaxing together and laughing over your favourite movies is a lovely way to spend the night as a family. If you’ve got children, this is a foolproof way to wind down and keep them entertained after a day full of fun activities! You could even add some homemade snacks, their favourite treats, or even some of the bakes you made earlier!
