Are you seeking a fun ways to get your kids interested in food?
I have some interesting ideas about how to do this …
- Cooking with them is always a good place to start, talking to them about measuring, ingredients, a balanced diet and food hygiene as you bake or make a huge lasagne, is a really hands on way to spark their interest and increase their education.
- I also advise taking kids food shopping with you so they can see you make healthy choices, consider your budget and look for as fresh fruit and veg as possible.
- Let them join you in devising a meal plan to avoid waste
- Let them see you recycle and compost and explain to them why you do this.
- Take them with you to the butchers and the bakers as you support independent shopkeepers.
- Tell them why and show them how you use up leftovers and talk them through your process.
- Eat together and make food a delightful and bonding part of your family life.
- Make all sorts of food from around the world to give your child a huge a variety of taste experiences
- Avoid processed and junk food and explain why.
- Ked your kids interested in food by introducing them to the se fab free online games about food at culinaryschools.org/kids-games/ There are 100’s of free games on the site all with a food related theme and they are speedy to play, colourful and fun and there are games suitable for all ages. Below I am going to show you a couple of my favourites.
Juice crusher
Juice crusher is a fun but simple fruit juicing game. You are given the recipe and you have to use your mouse to direct the right fruits in to the juicer to make it…sounds simple but it gets faster and you need to stay alert. Hopefully kids will enjoy identifying these fruits and making these juices they’ll be begging you for some fruit to make their own!
New Looney Tunes Veggie Patch
This is a super fun gardening sandbox game where children can explore growing various fruits and vegetables while interacting with animals and the environment. They get to water fertilise and hoe and it may inspire them to want to grow their own veg!
Education combined with play is always the very best way for kids to learn anything and find motivation isn’t it?
Letter Food Puzzle
This is a fun slide puzzle game where players slide rows or columns to create the layout of capital letters. Choose to play on kid mode, normal, or hard. Start with the letter A, unlocking another letter of the alphabet each time you complete a puzzle. And just be warned hard is HARD! I didn’t get past letter A on this mode and I am 53!
Brilliant for developing kids concentration skills!
Eating well and having a relationship with food is a lifelong skill we all want our kids to have and starting them early on a culinary journey gives them a great start.
