Lovely Things To Do in the Lake District
“The fleeting hour of life of those who love the hills is quickly spent, but the hills are eternal. Always there will be the lonely ridge, the dancing beck, the silent forest; always there will be the exhilaration of the summits. These are for the seeking, and those who seek and find while there is still time will be blessed both in mind and body.”
Alfred Wainwright

So breathtaking.
I visited with my best friend some 30 years ago and it still ranks as one of my most favourite places.
I just cannot wait to take my children there to see and experience one of the most gorgeous areas in England.
You may well want to ‘wander lonely as a cloud’ but there is so much more to the Lakes than Wordsworth’s poetic appreciation of the scenery.

Lake district poetry
William Wordsworth’s 1807 poem captures the lakes beautifully
‘I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils…’
This Lake District poem was inspired by a visit to Ullswater
Wordsworth’s cottage, Dove Cottage in Grasmere and well worthy of a visit.
But the Lakes have inspired childrens literature too …
Beatrix Potter whose beautifully illustrated books featuring Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and friends spent many childhood holidays in the Lake District and these influenced her work.
