Today – How to make the most of your wall space
I am at heart a minimalist and I love to have my home looking clean and uncluttered.
I think very carefully about what I put on my walls. The old maxim that if it is in my home it has to be either beautiful or useful is never truer than when it comes to dressing walls.
Here are 3 of my favourite ways to make the most of my wall space.
How to make the most of your wall space
Wall Clocks
I hate having to whip out my phone to see what the time is as it then often leads to a host of other distractions. I am also not one for always wearing a watch.
So yes, clocks are pretty much an essential in my home. I also think there is something lovely about a beautiful wall clock.
Isn’t this one glorious – simple, stylish and unobtrusive? Perfect.
All wall clocks featured are available at Purely Wall Clocks
If wall clocks with cool designs are more your style then this one is a beauty. It is set behind a beautiful geometric fretwork which adds a really curious look to it.
What a way to dress a wall. Each room demands its own style clock and picking the right one can be so much fun.
Mirrors
Mirrors can add so much light to a room but can also be a work of art in their own right. You have to be careful where you position them as people do not want to be staring at their own reflections as they relax, bathe or eat. Positioned well and carefully chosen though, mirrors can be a real asset to a room. The unfussy and simple mirror below totally accentuates the simple plant and picture on the small table below and the white frame is echoed by the table and the photo frame. It is the perfect mirror for this little scenario.
In a more elaborate room you may place a fancy gilt mirror and in a dressing room with French furniture a vintage mirror may be just right. You have to look at the room as a whole and dress with mirrors accordingly.
Art
I feel art is so entirely personal that to even suggest what you put on your walls in terms of art is not quite right. You know what you love and what makes your heart sing. Art that picks out colours in your room and that has a frame that compliments your room is important to adding cohesiveness. The style of your art is up to you. Modern art can work in traditional spaces and a traditional piece can look spectacular in a contemporary room. Choose art you love to adorn your walls be pay attention to the size and detail to be sure it fits well.
I love how the simple coloured art below fits in with and adds life to the serene monochrome of this room.
It can be so interesting to use your wall space to enhance the feel of a room and to give it a sense of cohesion and style.

Filling my wall space is something I’ve always struggled with! Nothing seems to fit. Maybe I’m trying too hard, perhaps just placing a mirror as a focal point would do. I never thought of that!
