The benefits of owning your own home are not lost on me. I have been renting now for 2 years and oh the frustrations it can bring are HUGE!
The frustrations of renting a property
I really worry abut the lack of stability – my landlord could up the rent or ask me to move on at anytime so I don’t feel settled. An underlying feeling of anxiety is with me each month when I receive her invoice or whenever she makes contact.
I also cannot make the home my own. Books are hugely important to my kids and I but I can only have low standing bookcases as we are not allowed to fix anything to the wall. Consequently, a good deal of our books remain in storage. This also applies to wardrobes, we have had to make do with chest of drawers. It just isn’t ours and I feel a reminder of that each and every day.
And don’t even get me started on repairs! I find it so frustrating not to just ring up a plumber or painter and get stuff fixed but instead have to wait for my landlady to do it. It can make life difficult.
Hence why I am looking to buy my new home.
There are just so many benefits of owning your own home and NOT renting!
7 Benefits of Owning Your Own Home
If owning your own home is something you want to explore take a look at Ascot Mortgages to discover your options. There truly are SO many benefits.
Here are the top 7 that matter most to me.
- There are no restrictions on pets! I’d love a cat!
- You can get repairs done immediately (or even do them yourself.)
- You can affix things permanently to a wall (do not underestimate this one!)
- You have more financial stability and with a fixed mortgage can make clear future financial plans
- You are investing your money – renting is like giving it away each and every month.
- You have an opportunity to generate rental income by using your home for lodgers, students or even popping it on air bnb when you go on holiday.
- Over time properties typically increase in value, which can provide you with a solid return on investment if you decide to sell the property later.
I could go on – the sense of pride and accomplishment combined with freedom and stability is an emotional return I crave.
