Beauty – a study of perception

So as you know this blog is called ‘a beautiful space’ but what is beauty is it a study of perception ?

Here is an attempt to define it ….

Beauty – a study of perception

Beauty is ‘the quality of being pleasing, especially to look at, or someone or something that gives great pleasure, especially when looking at’ thanks Wikipedia, anyway we all see things that make us stop and have to take a moment to think, sometimes it’s a person, a place or an event or even something as simple as Sheesham furniture (okay so I love my interior design!)

However I’m assuming you have heard the phrase ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ – this unlike most sayings that we come across is actually very relevant as Beauty is very much a study of perception.

Perhaps it is one of the biggest statements of our individuality that we all interpret what we consider beautiful differently.

I see beauty in simple things. Take a look at this lovely pinterest board Simple Ideas for a rich life that shows how beautiful simple things can be a carved piece of wood, a bouquet of flowers all in a  single colour, a pencil line drawing.

Other people like strong geometric patterns, rich colours, detailed art and tapestries and see beauty there.

Some people see beauty in perfectly mad up faces, I like t see old people whose faces wear the maps of their lives, people I can tell I have lived and laughed loved and cried rather than a blank surface.

We are ALL different and thank goodness the world is richer because of it.

Beauty too, and of course much more importantly is internal, kind gestures can be beautiful, a heart laugh, deep wisdom, a sincere hug in times of sadness.

If you can see beauty in a grey and  rainy day because you know it is nurturing flowers or you can see the beauty in grief because you know it comes from deep love then I think you have grasped it. Beauty is many, many things and we would do well to seek it wherever we can.
