The best fundraising ideas for autumn and winter
Autumn has just arrived and winter is just around the corner. As the days get shorter, the nights get colder and the air gets crisper, it’s time to think about the best ways to raise money for those that will need it the most.
The cold, dark nights in autumn and winter make this time of year even more difficult for the homeless population. Lack of adequate shelter and warmth leaves those sleeping on the streets vulnerable to illnesses, which can result in fatalities in some cases. That’s why it’s important to carry on with fundraising efforts throughout autumn and winter as well as in spring and summer.
Whilst some fundraising methods are off the cards due to the change in weather and fewer daylight hours, there are plenty of other creative money-raising ideas to take advantage of this autumn and winter!
Manchester-based homeless charity, Mustard Tree, have generously offered up their best fundraising ideas for the colder months, so you can get out there and help to raise money for those in need.
Throw a bonfire night party
This can be done on a large scale or small scale, either way, the end result is sure to be a hit amongst attendees and is a great, fun way to raise money for charity!
If you’re considering hosting a bonfire night party for just family and friends, you could set up a few games to raise money. For example, you could set up a classic game of apple bobbing for 50p a go. Whilst it may not sound like much, you could rack up quite a lot for your chosen charity throughout the night.
Christmas movie night
What better way to get in the Christmas spirit than to spend the winter period watching festive films! You could partner up with your local cinema or hire a space and sell tickets to a Christmas movie extravaganza.
This is a fantastic fundraising option because it is not weather dependent, and almost everyone loves a good Christmas film, so the event is sure to go down a storm!
Ugly jumper party
Now’s the best time of year to put your unfashionable, unwanted jumpers to good use by hosting an ugly jumper party.
This is an increasingly popular fundraising option as it’s easy to organise and promises hilarious results. You could even encourage people to get creative by offering a prize for the ‘worst’ ugly jumper.
To use this method to raise funds, rent out a space and guests can pay for tickets or alternatively, host the event in the office and invite local businesses round for festive drinks and snacks.
